Friday 11 June 2021 our internal track competition took place!

We started at 19:00 with hurdles, where Esmee and Boudewijn made jumping over 1 meter high hurdles look easy.

The 800m race was very tense. Andrii, Tijs, Lorens, Harry, Wessel, Ramon, Michiel, Stefan, Kjell and Hannah competed against each other with a win for Tijs, close second and third place for Andrii and Ramon (as can be seen on the picture at the right).

With a still beaming sun all Gauls went over to the Javelin/discus part of the track where 13 Gauls showed their throwing skills. Casper Schuijffel was the javelin king. He managed to throw his javelin 45.81 meters, further than his trainer Rik!

Merel (see photo) was the overall winner of discus throwing. She even threw a farther distance than all men! @Merel: a purple singlet will help you throw even farther 😉, perhaps enabling you to beat our Club Record of 35.26 meters!

After the throwing events, Boudewijn, Kaj, Lianne, Wessel, Domingos, Harry and Esmee jumped as high as they could over a horizontal bar, landing on the big blue mat. With his long legs, Boudewijn showed that he really is a jumping pro. Jumping over 1.07m hurdles as done earlier this evening really wasn't a problem for him, as here he showed he can jump over a 1.75m bar, beating all other Gauls!

At the same time, Robin began with the dreaded 3000 meters, so dreadful that no other Gauls dared to participate. With the cheering of his fellow Gauls, Robin easily ran below 10 minutes.

13 people showed how fast they could run 200 meters. There was some debate about a false start but luckily the PR committee filmed the start and with the help of our Instagram followers it was clear that it was a false start. For the men, Teun was the fastest with an amazing time of 23.8s. Maaike was the fastest woman.

After the 200 meters race, the sun was setting, resulting in a beautiful colored sky: a perfect setting for the Swedish relay. In a Swedish relay the first runner runs 100 meters, the second one 200 m, the third one 300 m and the fourth runner 400 m. The fastest team was the team with our sprinters Diego, Teun and Justine and Jelle.

We ended the night with an elimination mile followed by an elimination beermile. In an elimination mile every participant runs 400 meters, where the last to cross the finish line is eliminated. The rest runs another 400 meters where again the slowest gets eliminated, until one Gaul is the winner. The beer variant is the same, but now with chucking a beer before running each 400 meters.

The elimination mile without beer was fun to watch. Andrii, Lorens, Kjell and Robin sprinted away for the first 400 meters. Here, Robin’s 3000 meters from earlier that evening made him the first to be eliminated. Andrii, Lorens and Kjell slowed down for the next 400 meters. With an increase in speed at halfway the 400 meters, Andrii and Lorens managed to outrun Kjell. For the last lap they Andrii and Lorens started off reeaally slow. It seemed like both were tired from already running 800 meters. But suddenly Andrii started to increase his pace again and sprinted the last 200 meters of the race! (Lorens did not even try to keep up with him.) Congrats to Andrii for winning this fun tactical race!

For the beer variant, initially only 4 Gauls signed up. With the pushing of Finn, eventually this number was doubled. Michiel was the first to chug down his cola (yes, he had to drive so no beer), followed by Finn chugging down his beer. The rest followed shortly after. The girls only wanted to do one lap (and drink one beer), so they did all they could to not run 400 meters faster than the boys, which luckily they managed 😉. Eventually Harry and Finn were still in the game. With the help of some beers Finn ignored his injury and ran as fast as he could to victory (meanwhile, Harry got distracted by ice cream).
