Competition Utrecht

Last Friday, some Gauls decided to participate in the Lars Janssen Memorial Trackmeeting in Utrecht.

We should also not forget that Jim participated in Etten-Leur, where he threw a new discus PB of 32.72m and jumped 5.50m in the long jump!

The first Gaul to do his event in Utrecht was Rik, with a throw of 44.20m with the javelin! This was an improvement with respect to the competition in Uden! He also joined the shot put, where he managed to throw the shot put to a distance of 9.86m.

Lianne also participated in the javelin, and she threw a very decent 29.81m!

Lianne with an impressive throw!

Then it was time for some running! Casper and Adomas ran the 1500m. Casper, after recovering from being ill, ran a new PB of 3:46.45, breaking his old PB by only 0.02s! Adomas ran to an impressive time of 4:13.50! Both are showing great potential for the remainder of the season!

In terms of distance 0.02s is equivalent to Casper finishing 13cm ahead of his previous PB.

The most purple event of the evening was the 800m, with 7 Gauls participating! The fastest of these Gauls was of course Jens, who ran a time of 1:53.02! Jens commented that “it could be faster, but we’ll do that another time!”

A very focused Jens fighting for position after the first corner.

In the next heat, Andrii ran a new PB of 1:57.90! Andrii is aiming for a sub-1:55 by the end of the season. Looking at his result in Utrecht, this could be possible!

In the third heat, Ramon, Matthijs and Lorens competed against each other like in the good old days of the cross country season! Contrary to the entire cross country season, Lorens actually managed to beat both Matthijs and Ramon, while obliterating his 5 year old PB, running a solid 2:01.64. Matthijs followed closely behind with a 2:04.37, running very fast for a runner that usually runs much longer distances. Ramon beat his SB and ran 2:06.73! Maybe a sub-2 is finally possible this season for these three?

Credits to Domingos for the meme.

On the way back home, the PBs were celebrated with Matthijs as DJ in Ramons car.

Matthijs is a man of many talents.

In the fifth heat, Domingos and Kjell competed. Kjell ran 2:15.57, while Domingos broke his PB and ran 2:10.85. Domingos’ pacing technique has clearly improved significantly, running a 64 first lap and then a 66 second lap! Who knows what he can do on a 400, his main event!

Happy faces after a fun evening of competing!

Matthijs and Lorens even scored a picture with the fastest guy in Utrecht, Thijmen Kupers!

Kupers gave his signature on his bib number, and the bib number will be put in the canteen!

The next major competition will be the national competition on the 22nd of May! We Gauls are looking forward to competing and outpurpling the competitors!
